Rendering curved surfaces

In visual arts we were taught about how light renders with curved surfaces. Our in class task was to apply this knowledge to an already drawn image. Effectively meaning we had to draw the light shadows onto the pre made drawing.

My attempt at adding shadows, a background was added for fun.

The original image with no shadows.

Speed concept classwork

For class we were tasked with making a quick concept work of a fish hybrid in photoshop.

For inspiration I looked at images from shows such as the Simpsons and Futurama, and games like World of Warcraft.

2D game assignment Dev Blog - Week 1

We were set with a group project that required us to make a 2D game demo as a team. The first thing I did was pair up with Warren and Irina, later that day Paris joined our group. First thing we decided we roles. We all agreed that I was to be group leader, Warren to be head concept artist, Paris to do some code, and Irina to do art and also code.

The first thing we decided on was that the game had to have an distinctive and appealing art style. Because of this I set the group a task to do.

For the first week I set everyone in the group the task of drawing one concept piece, with the art style they desired for the game. At the end of the week we would all compare art styles and decide on what would look best for the game.

The result concept images that we got at the end of the week were very pleasing. Surprisingly almost everyone wanted to do the minimalist art style, which made things easy when deciding what look the game would have.

After everyone presented their desired art style it was clear that minimalism was a popular choice for the group as most of the group members chose to do it. Because of this it was decided that minimalism was the best choice for the game.
