Rendering curved surfaces

In visual arts we were taught about how light renders with curved surfaces. Our in class task was to apply this knowledge to an already drawn image. Effectively meaning we had to draw the light shadows onto the pre made drawing.

My attempt at adding shadows, a background was added for fun.

The original image with no shadows.

Speed concept classwork

For class we were tasked with making a quick concept work of a fish hybrid in photoshop.

For inspiration I looked at images from shows such as the Simpsons and Futurama, and games like World of Warcraft.

2D game assignment Dev Blog - Week 1

We were set with a group project that required us to make a 2D game demo as a team. The first thing I did was pair up with Warren and Irina, later that day Paris joined our group. First thing we decided we roles. We all agreed that I was to be group leader, Warren to be head concept artist, Paris to do some code, and Irina to do art and also code.

The first thing we decided on was that the game had to have an distinctive and appealing art style. Because of this I set the group a task to do.

For the first week I set everyone in the group the task of drawing one concept piece, with the art style they desired for the game. At the end of the week we would all compare art styles and decide on what would look best for the game.

The result concept images that we got at the end of the week were very pleasing. Surprisingly almost everyone wanted to do the minimalist art style, which made things easy when deciding what look the game would have.

After everyone presented their desired art style it was clear that minimalism was a popular choice for the group as most of the group members chose to do it. Because of this it was decided that minimalism was the best choice for the game.

Paintover technique

For Visual Arts we were tasked with editing an image by painting over it and applying textures using photoshop.
I have to say I really enjoyed making this, and applying the textures, the whole task was fun by itself.

Below is the image we were set to decorate.

Below is my version of the image, I had fun making this as I tried to make the image look like an unlock screen.

Speed Painting, part 2

For Visual Arts we were tasked with speed painting an image to the best of our abilities.
I found this task particularly enjoyable and fun.

Below is the image we were tasked with copying.

Below is the final outcome of my attempt at speed painting in class.

Battle Arena End Result

In the end my Battle Arena turned out better than expected.
The comic book textures turned out fantastic and really added to the feel of the level.

For most of the textures I painted over them using photoshop, with a little help from images that were found on the internet.

Most of the textures in the Arena were made to look like they were worn so I made sure to make them look cracked or old in a way, with the boxes I tried to make them look sort of new, yet worn in a way.

Flags and foliage were also added to some of the models to help add to the feel of the Arena. These were done using transparent objects using Alpha channels.

In the end I was very pleased with the outcome of my battle arena, the textures looked fantastic and so did the models that they were applied to.
